This is not a scandal but a tribute to the fighting spirit of Ms Mariana Bridi for her fighting spirit to live on.
Brazilian model and former Miss World Brazil finalist Mariana Bridi Da Costa, is battling for her life after her hands and feet was amputated.
Thiago Simoes, Da Costa’s boyfriend said that Bridi fell ill on December 30 and was initially misdiagnosed with kidney stones.
Bridi’s condition worsened and she had to return to the hospital where doctors determined she was suffering from a severe UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). Bridi’s doctors found out that she was also suffering from septicimea, a blood infection that limited the supply of oxygen to her extremities.
The septicimea had set in her limbs, cutting off circulation and forcing doctors to amputate her hands and feet.
The cause of the septicemia was pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium that is a bacteria often found in drug users although there is absolutely no reason to expect that is the case here.
Several sources are reporting the tragedy. Initially, Mariana Bridi da Costa was diagnosed with kidney stones however after she was away from the hospital she was readmitted and it was found that she had a urinary tract infection which is a common symptom of pseudomonas aeruginosa and ultimately septicemia developed.
When the septicemia developed it stopped blood flow to the hands and feet and the hands had to be amputated first then the feet. The bad news doesn't end there.
After the amputations because Mariana Bridi
da Costa has a rare blood type, it was necessary to remove her stomach and she has now been put on a respirator and is fighting for her life.
Mariana Bridi da Costa's website crashed at one point after absorbing over 15,000 hits because of the request for the special blood type.
Mariana Bridi da Costa was the runner-up for Miss World and had placed very high in other contests as well.
The situation has made the world take note. More than 100 people have donated blood in her name. Contact has been made from Australia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, France, Italy, USA and Russia just to name a few.
If she is in Septic Shock the mortality figure is over 50%.
Brazil is numbed. I understand that.
In the United States back in the 1960's there were tragic deaths of both Jayne Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe who were considered sex symbols and with their very "up" persona seemed larger than life.
Usually when a person is on a respirator after this type of surgery, the prognosis is not good, however, we must hope and her family asks for your prayers indicating she is a fighter.
